Valentine'S Day - Movie Review

By Bill Bonfanti

Movie delineate - Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day with its sprawling cast and characters is a bit too much and too minute at the same time. There are way too many characters which in turn means way too minute screen time for some of the more moving characters and storylines. Although to be honest, each of the stories lead to a predictable cliché ending that you've seen countless times before. Each plot line feels formulaic and overly schmaltzy and approximately sitcom like. Most of the talented cast is game (although some just phone it in) but they don't have all that much to work with. In fact the character development is so minimal that I never well got past the actor and into their fictional counterparts. It was more like there's Ashton Kutcher again or where's Julia Roberts?

The plot as it were centers on a plethora of couples, both young and old, and the myriad of pressures and stresses that the Valentine's Day holiday throws at them. Will Topher Grace still want to date Anne Hathaway after he finds out she moonlights as a phone sex operator? Will best friends Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner finally realize they are meant for each other? Can Jessica Biel look past her own cynicism and realize love is just around the corner? Can Taylor's Swift and Lautner be any cuter? These are the questions posed by Valentine's Day and not to ruin it for you, but you already know the retort to all of the above questions.

All of the actors (characters) are loosely connected and tied into one another and it all feels very forced. In the spirit of honesty, the film is so light and airy that I'm well having issue remembering the details. I can't even begin to tell you all the things that bothered me about this movie because I've already forgotten them. If that's not a strong discussion as to how trivial and inconsequential this film truly is, I don't know what is.

Most of the actors are fine, with the irregularity of Ashton Kutcher, who gives a carrying out that is more heartfelt and enjoyable than anything else's. He truly deserved to be in a good movie.

There are a few obvious things about the movie however. Valentine's Day is not nearly as awful as last year's atrocious He's Just Not That Into You. That movie had many similar elements such as the huge ensemble cast and loosely connected characters but was truly painful to endure. After watching it I wanted to scrub my brain with a brillo-pad so that I could forget what I saw.

Valentine's Day will also serve as the exquisite date movie over the romantic holiday. Sure as a guy you might be bored to tears, but your lady is going to love it and she'll love you even more when the movies over. You might even get lucky afterwards... I know I did. That should be worth the 90 minutes of torture. If you are bored while the film you could just think about what a cool guy Ashton Kutcher probably is in real life or marvel at the fact that Patrick Dempsey has great hair or that Anne Hathaway and Julia Roberts have the same exact smile.

To sum it up, Valentine's Day is like a heart shaped box of chocolates. You're excited to open it up and devour the sweet chocolates inside but as you are eating them, you realize you don't well like them all that much. The irregularity being the caramel one; that one is all the time delicious.

Examining The History Behind Valentine's Day Cards

Shrouded in mystery, the February 14th holiday is attributed to one of three Saint Valentine's, as ordained by Pope Gelasius in 500 A.D. Of course, back in the sixth century, many people did not know how to write, let alone have access to paper or postal services! The transfer of Valentines came much later. This February holiday is also attributed to the fertility festivals of even more old times. The history of the day itself notwithstanding, the tradition of exchanging correspondence on Valentine's Day started with the popularity of courtly love during the High Middle Ages of Chaucer's day.

The Art Of Courtly Love

Valentine

Courtly love was exactly that - a process of courtship held within the bounds and affiliations of the royal court. Group station, national loyalties, and political maneuverings played major roles in legal marriages up until the late 1800s. That process began changing during the High Middle Ages when love for love's sake gained in popularity and Group acceptance.

Examining The History Behind Valentine's Day Cards

Geoffrey Chaucer, and others like him, used words as seduction, affection, and romance, as well as historical documentation and allegory. The first recognized Valentine's Day letter, written by Chaucer in 1382, equates lovers with birds, advent together to pick their mates. There are other traditions, histories, and opinions regarding the day's origin, but most experts agree that the tradition of sending contemporary Valentine's Day photo cards and other correspondence to loved ones on February 14th each year is attributed mostly to Esther A. Howland, the mom of the Valentine.

Entrepreneur And Artist

Esther Howland, born in 1828, was given an ornate Valentine's Day card by a business associate of her father's when she was 19 years old. That card made such a profound impression upon her that she was inspired to originate a wide collection of holiday cards from paper doilies, lace, ribbons, scrap pictures, and other decorations. Immensely popular, Howland's creations ultimately required a staff to keep up with request until she sold the business in 1881.

Victorian And Edwardian Eras

The Victorian and Edwardian eras, faultless with all of their lace, gold leaf, grandeur, and pomp, were fertile ground for this emerging industry. Fat cherubs, arrow-pierced hearts, gold scrolls, lacy edges, and images of birds graced hundreds of these artful works of correspondence that were no longer solely the reign of the wealthy. As costs continued to decline, more and more middle-class individuals were able to partake in these exchanges.

Printing Presses And Affordable Postage

Only a few generations earlier, most people never had cause to send or receive letters. Printing presses made more reading material available, which led to increases in literacy. The reduced cost of postage allowed more people to send and receive letters, holiday cards, and other forms of correspondence. The net succeed has been huge increases in the whole of greeting cards exchanged each year. Color lithography technology of the 1930s was all the commerce needed to reach every level of society.

Modern Holiday Cards

Once more, contemporary technologies have increased the options and availability of these holiday cards. From handmade luxury to mass-produced slips of paper with glue-less envelopes, today's holiday cards have reached new heights that combine affordable ability with high tech customization abilities, featuring house photographs, personalized messages, and color schemes to match, all at the push of a button.

Today's Valentine's Day photo cards run the gamut, from light hearted and playful to formal proposals of marriage. Never have so many options been available. As a succeed of the convenience of creating and customizing today's Valentine's Day photo cards, an estimated one billion are sent each year, second only to Christmas.

Celebrated in many countries nearby the world, February 14th serves as an occasion to tell house and friends that they are loved. The primary colors of red, white, and gold continue to be used, but the messages can be passionate, playful, or just friendly. Truth be told, children are not the only ones who enjoy receiving a Valentine's Day photo card from a loved one. In today's culture of busy schedules and long length relationships, these reminders that we are thought of and cared about become more leading than ever.

What began, historically, as a religious acknowledgement of martyrdom and reduce has evolved into a contemporary expression of personal creativity, love, and affection, outside all things from friendship to matrimony. Today's Valentine's Day photo cards now grace mailboxes, luncheon tables, offices, and even classroom desks. Every person needs some love!

5 healthy Valentine Snacks You Can Make For Your Sweetheart

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be just about roses and boxes of chocolate. You can surprise your sweetheart with some salutary valentine snacks this year that not only good for him or her, but also delicious. Here are five salutary snack ideas that are excellent for Valentine's Day.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Valentine

Combine ripe strawberries with dark chocolate for a healthy, yet indulgent Valentine snack. Start with large, ripe strawberries. Melt some dark chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Dip the strawberries halfway into the dark chocolate. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off, and then place them on some wax paper to allow the chocolate to harden.

Heart Shaped Grilled Cheese Sandwich

For these cute grilled cheese sandwiches, layer a piece of low fat cheese in the middle of two slices of wheat bread. Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the sandwich into a heart. Spray a hot pan with a non-stick cooking spray and add the sandwich. Grill it until it is golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted. These sandwiches are a excellent snack on their own, or serve them with a cup of tomato soup for a light lunch.

Cupid's Arrows

This snack also makes an spirited appetizer. Start by washing some grape or cherry tomatoes and cutting some low-fat mozzarella cheese into cubes. Thread them on some kabob sticks, alternating the tomatoes and the cheese. Lay the "arrows" on a platter and drizzle with a diminutive bit of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar to stop off. Even cupid could not resist this Mediterranean inspired snack.

Valentine's Day Smoothie

This very-berry and pink smoothie makes a great midday snack or even a filling breakfast. Start by adding some low-fat strawberry to your blender. Toss in some frosty berries (we like strawberries) and a frosty banana if you'd like. Add a diminutive orange juice and blend on high until well mixed. Pour the smoothie into tall glasses and top with a diminutive low-calorie whipped topping, a strawberry and a Hershey's kiss.

Jello Hearts

These jello hearts are all the time a beloved with the kids. Put in order a container of strawberry yellow according to container directions. If you'd like, you can fold in a few finely chopped strawberries at the end. Pour the jello mixture into a baking dish and allow it to harden. Use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut hearts out of the red yellow mixture. Top each heart with half a strawberry (cut lengthwise).

Engraved Valentine's Gifts: The exquisite Way to Say 'I Love You'

"Life is a flower of which love is the honey." Victor Hugo

"'Tis better to have loved and lost... Than never to have loved at all." Alfred Lord Tennyson

Valentine

Famous quotes from preeminent people. With Valentine's Day just round the corner, it's normal for minds to lean towards feelings of love and romance. Or if you're single, you may have pondered feelings for a special someone in your life...

Engraved Valentine's Gifts: The exquisite Way to Say 'I Love You'

In any case, if you're going to impart your affection to your sweetheart, it's prominent to give Valentines gifts that unquestionably shout 'Be Mine.'

Admittedly, there are times when actions and gifts speak louder than words. But then again, there are also times when just one or two words can make all the difference.

For those of you finding for a sentimental and former present for your partner on Valentine's Day, engraved gifts say a thousand words and show a thousand actions all at once. The use of engraved Valentines gifts offer a degree of personalisation that's difficult to be found elsewhere.

If you have seen the film Love Actually, then you'll probably remember the scene when David (Hugh Grant), the recently elected British Prime Minister, finds a Christmas card from Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), his new junior member who he has fallen for, signed "With Love, Your Natalie." These words encourage David to go and win her back.

And some of you may recall the scene when Mark (Andrew Lincoln) stands exterior Juliet's (Keira Knightley's) house and tells her he loves her using flashcards, the most memorable one being: "... To me, you are perfect."

Or in Notting Hill when Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) stands in the bookshop and professes her undying love for Will Thacker (Hugh Grant) using the line: "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy... Asking him to love her..."

Ideal for both ladies and gents, personalised Valentines gifts not only demonstrate discreet sophistication, but also your feelings for that special private in your life.

What better way to say and show how you feel than with a silver love heart trinket, or a set of elegant cut crystal champagne flutes, engraved with their name and your message of love?

Women finding for engraved gifts for men won't go wrong with a pair of silver cufflinks etched with his or your initials, or even a silver wine stopper or cutlery set. For those of you finding for slightly more unusual Valentines gifts, how about a joining hearts keyring to keep your Valentine close at all times?

Whether you want to stand exterior your lover's front door with flashcards or woo your lover back with a tender message Love Actually-style, engraved gifts merge both actions and words to help get your message of love over to your Valentine loudly and proudly.

Valentine's Day Ideas For Men and Women

I have a list of ideas that break down gift ideas for both men and women. Let us start out with what Women can find for the man in her life;

1. Is your man into technology? There are toys especially for the Hi-Tech men. Mini-Notebooks, iPads, Gps, iPods, the new Kendal, and the accessories to keep them working.

Valentine

2. Is you man absolutely into his car? Look online for ideas on car accessories. Look specifically for his car's year, make and model. Does he like classics and like to work on his own vehicle? Look for catalogues for Reconditioning and Customizing.

Valentine's Day Ideas For Men and Women

3. Believe it or not, many men are looking for that extra Clothing or jewelry item. Is there a extra tie or jacket that he has been checking out? Maybe you can find a watch or anklet which has that particular theme to delineate him.

Now, for the Men who are looking for gift ideas for the woman in his life.

1. Flowers never go wrong. I know it sounds so typical and unimaginable, but women still love the attention. However, consolidate them with a small gift such as a necklace or anklet strung over one of the flowers.

2. Try writing a poem or letter. Not every person is a writer, any way the words need to be yours and no one else's. If you cannot make a poem with the words you want to say, make a letter. If you cannot come up with the right words to express your true feelings, write about a happy memory of a past moment together. Put it in with the flowers.

3. A Romantic dinner with your lady is ordinarily a sure winner. Make it more intimate and underground by staying at home with candles and soft romantic music. Gift the flowers with the letter or poem.

Use your imagination. Creating the excellent Valentine's Day consists of observing and getting to know your date and looking out about their interests and lifestyle. Get to know each other and base your gift ideas on who they are.
